Wing Shooting Safari in South Africa

World Class Pigeon Shooting in South Africa

Wing [ Pigeon ]shooting and bird hunting in South Africa can be enjoyed in many different provinces with a large diversity of different birds.

1,5 hours’ drive from Johannesburg International airport places you in some of the best wing shooting in the world. Shooting takes place over sunflower and sorghum and Millet fields. The best time for the shooting is mid-April to Mid June, which is before and during the harvest of the crops. The Birds fly throughout the day at varying heights.

The day would start with a leisurely breakfast. The guests would set off on a short drive to the area with the pigeons flying from 10h00am till late afternoon. Lunch and refreshments would be served in the field and allow guests some social chat and recovery time. Shooting then continues through the afternoon until about 17h00pm. The guests would then return to the lodge for a rest and then a dinner at the lodge, time to reflect on the day and thoughts of the following days shooting.

4 Different types of Doves and Pigeons

Rock Pigeon (Speckled Pigeon), Red Eyed Turtle Dove, Cape Turtle Dove, and Laughing Doves are the main birds that are shot. During the peak season, you can expect to go through 500 -700 cartridges per person per day.
The shooting area has been compared to that of the best in Argentina and some have indicated better.
